Updated January 26th, 2017 – The original SPECTRE N.Peal Cable Roll Neck Sweater, worn under the Dior Homme Jacket during Bond’s visit with Mr. White, is still available at their website. The price is £269.00, or around $380.00 U.S.. It’s an absolutely beautiful sweater, made from the 100% cashmere for which N.Peal is famous. And the current exchange rate means U.S. buyers are getting a bit of deal on it right now.
As for the alternatives …. Finding the right combination of cable knit pattern with the light grey color in a turtleneck/polo neck is a little difficult. But we’ve come up with some alternatives that get close.
Best Option for the SPECTRE N.Peal Cable Roll Neck Sweater
WoolOvers Pure Wool Aran Cable Roll Neck Sweater in Flannel: on sale for $72.00/£49.00
Sure, the pattern is a little busier and the knit a little heavier. But this 100% wool option comes very close in color. And seeing as the price has dropped by about $24, it’s a bit of a steal right now. WoolOvers has sizes X-small to XXL in stock. And as they note on their site, their fit is “generous”. So consider dropping down a size if you want to avoid the baggy sweater look.
Alex Stevens Cable Turtleneck Sweater in Dark Heather Grey: on sale for $29.99
A 100% cotton option for those of you looking for something a little lighter weight. Obviously the color is much darker than the screen used sweater. But it does have that more subtle cable pattern. Regularly priced at $60, Amazon has sizes small to XXL in stock.
Alex Stevens Ribbed Turtleneck Sweater in Heather Grey: on sale for $29.99
If the accuracy of the color matters to you more than the pattern, you could try this other option from Alex Stevens. Same price and also 100% cotton. You’ll find sizes small to XXL at Amazon.
ASOS Lambswool Rich Cable Roll Neck in Light Grey: on sale for £19.00/$29.00
Good color match. Although the pattern gets a little funkier than the N.Peal’s. Material is 80% lambswool/20% acrylic and it’s described as a regular fit. For those of you in the U.S., remember that ASOS has free shipping worldwide.
Like the second Alex Steven option, this one sacrifices the cable pattern for a much closer color match. Once again described as a “generous fit”, WoolOvers suggests sizing down if you want a more fitted look. Made from 100% lambswool and they have sizes x-small to XXL in stock.
Reiss Sky Textured Rollneck Jumper in Oatmeal: on sale for £70.00/$120.00
That earlier great option from Reiss is sold out now. But the Sky has dropped in pricing, making it an option worth considering. A 50% nylon/50% wool blend, the neck is definitely more aggressive than the one on the N.Peal. At the time of writing, they had sizes large to XXL in stock.
Strellson Cable Knit Turtleneck Sweater: on sale for $124.59
Lord & Taylor have the Strellson option on sale, down from the regular price of $178.00. They have sizes medium, large and XL left in stock. No mention of what the material is in the product description. Just says “paper”. I’m going to assume that’s a data entry error. Another good color match for the N.Peal, even if the pattern isn’t accurate.
Calvin Klein Wool Cable Knit Turtleneck Sweater: $124.00 to $128.00
New option coming at ya from Amazon U.S. Despite what the product title says, this one’s actually mostly acrylic (69%), with some wool and nylon thrown in. Makes the price a little steep for a high percentage synthetic. The color is also much darker than the screen used sweater. But it does have the less aggressive cable knit pattern.
