Our Best Budget Style Finds shares the top discoveries from the previous month. Some of these will have already been included in past posts and are deserving of another mention. Some will be great alternatives found by the intrepid community. And some are just odds and ends that don’t currently have a home.
Well, we’ve hit the dry season. The recent spring/summer clearance sales are ending and inventory is getting real low. And the new fall collections haven’t started to hit the stores quite yet. But, after a bit of digging, we’ve still managed to find some fun stuff worth sharing! Let’s get to it ….
Finding Solace in Some Neckwear …
So our good friends at Luxeswap just received a batch of new-with-tags Tom Ford ties. Six of which are the same model James Bond wore to the Greene Party in Quantum of Solace!
If you want to check them out for yourself and discuss pricing, you can contact Luxeswap directly either by DM on Instagram (I’ve also linked to their original post above) or emailing them at email@example.com. Just so you know, Luxeswap is one of the biggest menswear sellers on Ebay (with a 100% satisfaction rating) and a really solid group of people. So they have my trust. Also, for complete transparency, I’m not getting anything out of this. Just friends helping friends!
Fall jackets are coming!
If our “page view” numbers on this site are anything to go by, it seems folks still want alternatives for Daniel Craig’s navy Belstaff K Racer jacket. I’ll be updating the dedicated post for that jacket in a couple of weeks. But I’m sharing one from this past spring season in this post before it completely sells out …
This 62% cotton/38% nylon option from British brand Superdry is probably the closest alternative I’ve seen in a long time. The chest and hip pockets aren’t an exact match. But the color, shoulder-to-sleeve padding and overall styling come really close. If you like it, act fast! They’re down to sizes medium and large, and there’s no telling how long those will last. I will say that, in my experience, Superdry sizes run small. And this is a pretty trim fitting jacket. So you may want to think about sizing up to get a comfortable fit.
Boot weather’s coming too!
Ecco Vitrus II Chelsea Boot in Bison Suede: on sale for $99.97
We updated our dedicated post on alternatives for Daniel Craig’s R.M. Williams Gilchrist Chelsea boots back in May. But I just saw these ones from Ecco on Nordstrom Rack a couple of days ago. If Ecco footwear is known for anything, it’s comfort. And while the outsole isn’t exactly what we’re looking for, the color of the suede uppers, the boot shape and the hundred bucks they’ve knocked of the retail price make them an attractive option. European sizes 40 to 47 are in stock on the website.
Another Shawl Collar Cardigan …
So Daniel Craig got himself a new cardigan. And according to Instagram account @whatsdanielwearing, he was wearing it everywhere this past spring. The knitwear in question is actually the Massimo Alba lightweight cashmere SCOOP shawl collar cardigan that originally retailed for 689€. Massimo Alba currently has the same style on sale, but in different colors. The ACERO color is 30% off (481€) and the BOMBAY is 50% off (344.50€). And there’s still a good selection of sizes left in both. I’ll have a dedicated post on alternatives coming soon. But just in case you can’t wait, here’s one option …
It’s 100% cotton. Which means it’ll be a little heavier and a lot less expensive than the Massimo Alba cardigan. It’s also missing that sixth button up around the collar and has handwarmer pockets. But the color and a slimmer fit are good matches. Banana Republic has sizes small to XL available. And if you’re patient (and willing to risk your size selling out), a discount code will probably come along soon to help bring the price down. You can also check out the Bonobos Cotton Cashmere Shawl Collar Cardigan for $138.00. It’s a good color match as well. But the buttons are a lighter brown.
Once Upon a Time … In Hollywood Champion Logo T-Shirt
Not Bond related. But still pretty cool. In case you missed it, Esquire had a short article on how to find a legit Champion logo tee like the one Brad Pitt wore in the recently released Quentin Tarantino film. And our good friend BAMF Style did a great write-up on the whole look, which you should definitely check out!
And here’s the tee. Inexpensive, produced by a company licensed to use the Champion name and logo, and all sizes are in stock. Can’t really ask for much more than that.
And speaking of summer style shirts …
Mason & Sons Thunderball Inspired Camp Collar Shirts: £115.00/$109.00 ex. VAT
Since we still have a few more weeks of summer weather to look forward to, now’s not a bad time to pick up a classic Thunderball inspired camp collar shirt. We already looked at a variety of options in this post. But Mason & Sons (makers of many fine Bond-inspired garments) just announced that they’ve restocked their takes on the classic 007 shirts. You can choose from the Blue Stripe Seersucker, the Pink Gingham Check, the Pink Linen, the Blue Gingham Check, and the Navy Linen. And if you want to buy three or more, used the code CAMP at checkout for a 20% discount.
A few fun things for the collectors …
I never knew I needed a Connery Zardoz doll until I saw one on Instagram. Custom made by @alligatorcreator, it’s quite possibly the most brilliant thing I’ve seen in ages. I honestly have no idea if she’ll make another one or the price. But it’s definitely going on my Christmas list!
Victory Games James Bond 007 RPG Basic Set and Q Manual: $44.99 and $21.20
Wow. This is a blast from the past. When I saw my friend @universal_exports_london post on Instagram about finding the On Her Majesty’s Secret Service game module, a whole lot of memories suddenly came rushing back. My dad, who passed away in 2015 and to whom this website is dedicated, was a lifelong Bond fan. And he bought me this Victory Games RPG set and the Q manual way back in 1984. As I sit here typing this, I can distinctly remember pouring over the Q Manual with him, fascinated by the details about the cars and gadgets from the films.
I still have my dad’s complete collection of Pan Bond novels from the early 1960s. But sadly, my Victory Games books were lost at some point over last thirty-five years. And, to be completely honest, I’d basically forgotten about them until a couple of days ago. But now that I remember? I’m picking up a set to play with my son and introduce him to the world of 007.
